What a federation is responsible for
A sports federation exists to organise competition, maintain rankings, register athletes and clubs, and publish regulations. In practice most of that runs on spreadsheets and messaging groups: results are posted as photographs, rankings are recalculated by hand, athlete registration is paper, and nobody outside the immediate circle can find out when the next competition is or who won the last one.
What we build for one
First, a competition calendar with registration, which is the core function and currently the hardest thing for a participant to find. Second, results and rankings maintained automatically, since hand-calculated rankings are both laborious and disputed. Third, athlete and club registration with documentation, replacing paper. Fourth, a club directory and published regulations, which is how a newcomer finds a place to train and how the sport grows beyond the people already in it.
