A browser extension that adds shipping context to Amazon order pages
Amazon Order & Shipping Widgets is an in-house browser extension for Amazon sellers and shoppers. Amazon's order pages confirm what was bought. The extension answers the questions that follow (where the package is, when it will arrive and what goes with it) by adding widgets directly to the order and shipping views. We built the MVP over three to four months, starting in early 2023.
Key features
- Delivery timeline — a visual timeline of the estimated delivery window, right on the order page.
- Package tracking — tracking status with courier details, shown next to the order instead of on a separate carrier site.
- Related and recommended items — suggestions displayed alongside the order.
- Shipping history — earlier shipments and their progress in one place.
Architecture and tech stack
The extension is written in TypeScript and JavaScript, with a lightweight injection script that places widgets into Amazon's existing page structure. A Node.js service provides a REST layer between the extension and Amazon's product and order data.
Engineering against a moving target
- Layout changes — Amazon updates its markup regularly, so the injection script uses resilient selectors with fallback strategies rather than a single brittle path.
- API limits — an optional backend proxy with caching reduces quota use for rate-limited calls.
- User trust — the extension runs sandboxed from the host page to limit privacy and security exposure.
What we delivered
A working MVP that extends Amazon's default order UI with shipping and order context. It also gave us a repeatable approach to building browser-level tooling on top of a large platform we do not control.
