Why finishing quotes never match
Finishing is priced per operation and per square metre, and clients compare totals from contractors who included different work. The cheapest quote usually omitted something, which becomes an argument halfway through. Clients also cannot judge quality from a finished photograph, since everything looks acceptable in good light, and they have all heard about teams that left a job unfinished. Material supply — whether the client buys or the contractor does — is a further constant source of dispute.
What we build for a finishing contractor
First, per-operation pricing — screed, plaster, tiling, painting — with what each includes, so quotes become comparable. Second, a calculator by area and work type, producing a range and, more importantly, a scope. Third, material supply terms stated: who buys, what markup, what happens with leftovers. Fourth, a stage payment schedule and progress photos, which is what protects both sides and distinguishes you from the teams clients fear.
