Why rail loses freight to road
Rail is substantially cheaper than road for bulk and long distance, and loses volume anyway because shippers cannot get a straight answer on wagon availability, terminal access, transit time or total cost including first and last mile. Road hauliers quote in an hour. Rail operators who publish a company history and a phone number are not competing, and the multimodal coordination that would make rail usable is left entirely to the shipper.
What we build for a rail operator
First, wagon types and capacity with availability, since equipment is the constraint shippers cannot see. Second, route and terminal access published, including loading capability, because first and last mile decide whether rail works at all. Third, rate structure with an indicative calculator, so rail can be compared against a road quote in the same hour. Fourth, tracking and multimodal coordination, which is what turns a rail leg into a delivered shipment.
