Why greening projects lose funding
Tree-planting is easy to photograph and hard to verify, which is why serious funders have become sceptical. What they want is the location, the species, the planting date, the survival rate at one and three years, and who maintains the site. Projects that publish only planting-day photographs are indistinguishable from the ones that abandoned their saplings, and they compete for the same money.
What we build for a reforestation project
First, a project map with species, area, planting date and survival data, which is the verification the whole category lacks. Second, sponsorship packages at different scales, from individual trees to corporate plots, with what the sponsor receives. Third, progress reporting per site over years rather than at the moment of planting. Fourth, a corporate partnership route with the documentation companies need for their own sustainability reporting.
