How silk is traded
Cocoon production is seasonal, graded and sold almost entirely through established channels that leave the producer with the smallest share. Reelers and weavers screen on cocoon grade, shell ratio and reeling yield; buyers of raw silk screen on denier and evenness. Neither can find a producer who published those, so the trade stays closed and the margin sits with intermediaries who know which producers are good.
What we build for a sericulture operation
First, cocoon grade pages with shell ratio and reeling yield, which is the specification the next stage buys on. Second, seasonal volume and timing, since this crop arrives in a narrow window. Third, raw silk specifications where you reel, with denier and evenness data. Fourth, direct enquiry routing to reelers, weavers and craft workshops, which is how a producer escapes the intermediary chain.
