How grain is priced
Mills and traders buy grain on measured parameters: protein, gluten, moisture, falling number, impurity. Those numbers set the price, and a grower who cannot present them for stored lots negotiates blind. Storage matters as much — selling at harvest is selling at the year low, and holding requires buyers who know your volumes are available in three months. Neither is visible anywhere.
What we build for a grain farm
First, quality parameter pages per lot and per season, with test results attached, since that is exactly what a mill screens on. Second, storage capacity and monthly availability, which is what makes forward selling possible. Third, delivery basis and loading capability, including rail access where it exists. Fourth, forward contract enquiries, so volumes are committed before the harvest price collapses and storage earns its cost.
